Meet Lisa

As a lifelong Tacoman, parent of a Tacoma Public Schools graduate, and current school board member, my commitment to our schools runs deep. Over the years, I have gained an in-depth understanding of the challenges our students, families, teachers, and district employees face every day. It is truly an honor to serve as a Tacoma Public Schools Director.

Since joining the school board six years ago, I have helped lead our district to make tremendous progress. We’ve secured vital funds to expand our students’ learning experiences, including breaking ground on a Maritime skills center, and starting the process of creating a first of its kind robotics center – both of which will provide unique and vital education to our students - creating scientists, engineers, and innovators of the future. We worked with the community to develop our Summer Late Nights program to provide a safe, alternative space for our students, reducing gun violence rates among Tacoma youth. We’ve navigated unprecedented challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and budget shortfalls all while boosting our graduation rates to the highest in district history. I’m proud to say that for all of my years as a Director, we have been designated a Board of Distinction by the Washington State School Directors Association for our work.

Now more than ever, as our schools and families face attacks at the national level, we need strong, confident leadership for Tacoma’s schools. That’s why I’m running for reelection. With so much uncertainty in our federal government, the threat of losing the Department of Education, and hateful policies seeking to harm the students most at risk in our community, I am committed to fighting for every student and protecting them from discriminatory policies. I’m dedicated to continuing my work making our public schools stronger, serving our students’ needs, and providing a high-quality and safe education to our students.
